Learn to make a ruffle Christmas tree skirt using our PDF sewing tutorial. This holiday tree skirt sewing tutorial includes the option to make a tree skirt in three different sizes ranging from a diameter of 50″ to 64″. This is a perfect project for re-purposing old sheets and curtains. The festive skirt looks lovely with a single monotone hue or a mix match of festive fabrics.
This tutorial is designed for intermediate seamstresses, who are not afraid of gathering large quantities of fabric. The ruffle tree skirt takes a significant amount of time to make.
I suggest using the following supplies: gathering foot/ruffler, serger, rotary mat and cutter. These materials are not necessary, but they do streamline the sewing process significantly.
Fabric Required:
Small (Diameter – 50″): Ruffles- 4 yards, Base Layer – 1 1/4 yard of 44″ fabric
Medium (Diameter – 57″): Ruffles- 4 3/4 yards, Base Layer – 1 3/8 yard, 50″ fabric
Large (Diameter – 64″): Ruffles 6 yards, Base Layer – 1 1/4 yard, 64″ fabric
The base layer is not visible at the end, so it’s a great way to re-purpose old sheets, blankets, etc.
The tutorial breaks down the fabric requirements for each layer of ruffle, if you are using a mix-match of fabrics. Included above is the total fabric requirement.
