These cool cats entered a prom dress contest via JoAnn Prom Contest

They designed and make a stunning corset style prom dress. The day we saw them, they were on a post prom photo shoot mission, and this is my favorite part. The guy designed and made the dress!!! HE wrote his own pattern. I could hardly stand it. Yep – he is the fashion designer extraordinaire!, Uber impressed? I was; I perused a few photo pages on the JoAnn prom contest  looking for their entry, but I didn’t see their dress featured. If only we could vote… I’d send you all their way. I didn’t get a picture that really captured the full beauty of the dress, but believe me – this one was a real show stopper! Aren’t they an impressive crew?! I couldn’t get over it. He certainly has a bright future ahead of him, and to think of the confidence he has to defy stereotypical gender roles and dive into an industry predominantly filled with women – at his age – to have that confidence and SKILL.  If only we could teach our children to have the same level of self assurance. I’m left to wonder, how did he learn to sew? Who taught him. Where did his interest pique? I wish I’d asked more questions, but at the time, I felt like a blabbering idiot going on and on about how great they were. I gave them a business card, so maybe they’ll send me a beauty shot and a bit more information to share… My fingers are crossed! What an inspiration!

Happy Father’s Day!

Oh – this one does require shirring the straps. I’ve held off as long as possible on adding a pattern that requires shirring. Why? Some people are scared to shirr. Enough of the nonsense. It’s time to start, because shirring really isn’t scary, and once you start, you’ll be very glad you did, and you’ll quickly want to shirr everything in sight. It’s fun, easy, and the results are cute and unique.

My mom showed me a really neat trick yesterday for making ruffled edges using knit. I have Nana Lizard on constant lookout for white shirts at Goodwill, b/c they pair beautifully with all our skirts and dresses. She had several white tops on hand and showed me an easy way to feminize and girlify tees and long sleeves you have.

This dress takes a lot of fabric, but the twirl factor is pretty impressive.

P.S. We finally hung our headboard, and it was super easy. We used hooks and picture hangers that hold 50 pounds of weight. I’ll try to add a picture, but I’m figuring out this word press blog application. Learning curve is pretty steep.
